Barcelona- Tour to Montserrat

The day is wet and cool we are picked up from our hotel in a black mini van by Carlos. With two other couples again I feel like Gilligans Island on a ‘fateful trip’. The river is flooded, rain is pouring across the roads and down the mountain. Before we even get out of town there is a ‘civil protection’ warning coming up on mobile phones and on the gps screen with a siren blaring, except mine as I don’t have cell coverage. I have thoughts of terrorists or being cut off with flooding etc. however, After the Valencia debacle where many lives were lost the Catalan government is trying out a new warning system. This one is for the weather. We proceed anyway. The driver is very careful and decided to take the safest route so we fully trust him. He gave us all nicknames . Mine was Scarlett Johanssen. At the foot of the mountain a police guard turns us away and tells us the other route is open (the one with landslides 🙈). Too risky, we go for coffee. Half an hour later the police are gone and we drive up the steep mountain with music to calm us and communicate our stories to each other. I feel it will be fine.

The mountains at Montserrat have deep energy like Delphi!

The monastery is beautiful and we sit for a while and view the Black Madonna from a distance. We light candles and all pray together. The guide was quite taken with this. One of our group has suffered cancer.

After the museum the sun came out and we could see Barcelona in the valley below. It was quite a touching moment. On the way down the mountain we stopped for a group photo. How amazing is the connection you can feel from a trip with possible adversity. It was a delightful adventure.
